DID YOU KNOW?...that color has been used for centuries in Christian worship? Color is one of God's ways of filling His world with beauty and giving pleasure to the viewer. Liturgical colors, like music, complement the message of the church season. The use of liturgical colors is much more than merely to attract the eye and make the surroundings "pretty". These colors help to establish a climate in which God’s Law and Gospel can be heard and received. Color communicates and reinforces the seasons and events in the life of our Lord and His church. Traditionally, five basic colors have been used in liturgical congregations - white, red, green purple and black. We use these colors to enhance our worship experience and direct us to our Lord!
What do you understand our "Fellowship Ministry" to be? Of course, it is what happens among us to draw us closer in our "walk with Jesus" and with one another by what we do among ourselves - how we fellowship!
Carole Martin is the coordinator of our Fellowship Ministry and keeps track of our kitchen needs. The kitchen is a busy place 7 days a week! An extension of the downstairs kitchen is the kitchenette found upstairs in the Friendship Room. Users of both kitchens include: Bethany ECEC, Sunday Fellowship, New Members Basics and Beginnings Class, Women's Book Club, Bethany Quilters, Beth Moore Bible Study Group, Wednesday in the Word Study Group, as well as the teachers and aides to enjoy a quick cup of tea! Another one of our Fellowship Ministry services is our Funeral Luncheon Ministry. This service provides a luncheon for families when a funeral takes place and when requested. Phone calls are made to ladies of the congregation who then volunteer to graciously provide delicious food for the luncheon. This is a special way to show families our loving and caring fellowship. One service of our Fellowship Ministry is called our Fellowship Events/Reception ministry. This service is available to the various boards and groups at Bethany. This ministry coordinates the supplies and makes certain they are available when needed. Want to be involved? Please talk to Carole Martin, our Fellowship Ministry Coordinator. One of our Fellowship Ministry events is our Sunday Breakfast ministry each Sunday morning following the early Service and prior to Sunday School. This is a time for getting better acquainted and sharing our care for and with one another together with snacks, hot coffee, tea or cold drinks. Thanks to many volunteers, this event of sharing “goodies” is most successful! You may want to volunteer also. A sign-up sheet can be found next to the coffee pot in the basement fellowship hall. W.A.R.M. provides a thermal shelter called “Shelter of Last Resort.”
It serves the City’s neediest citizens from Thanksgiving through March. WARM House offers cost-free family oriented shelter for 4 families. Families may participate in the program for up to six months. Participants must be 18 years old and have at least 1 child in their custody/care. Coordination: area church congregations and leaders who serve Bethany Lutheran is supporting the WARM Ministry through its volunteers and with this quarter’s (Dec 2014- Feb 2015) Sunday School offerings – thank you for your financial, prayer and service support! |
